Q & A, etc. - General Questions
May I use my Region X Tags?
Yes - just make sure the appropriate information is included - breed, gender, age - color is optional; either your initials or Region X number - if you use the number, let me know).
Flocked Rocking Horse – flocked or horses with tack?
I would say models with tack as the other class will probably have horses without tack, but I would ask the judge. It could go either way.
Stone Pebbles – Precious Stone – Can this show with the big guys in the gemstone?
The collectability section is open to all sizes, so yes.
Where do I put the OF XC entry?
I see in the show catalog you suggest it goes into Other w/Fence, but that is only available in the CM/AR division.
Special section G1 Stablemates. The "other" would refer to part or other breeds?
Yes
Where would G1 foals go by breed type or this section?
In the breed class.
Do Lake Shores go in class 456 Small Studio or 460 Other American Manufacturer?
It would depend on the number produced. As one of the regular runs, 460. If it's a SR/LE, 456.
What is Hartland WC in your class list?
Woodcut.
Is Class 209 (Breyer Other Spanish) just for purebreds or could a Spanish/Spanish cross show there?
You may put a Spanish/Spanish cross in class 209.
For Other English/Western/Misc. Performance, you say “No bareback”. Does that exclude using a class for Misc. Perf. like Horse Agility in which the horse is shown on a lead or at liberty?
The "No Bareback" was to exclude Bareback Pleasure (folks that would just remove a saddle). I would think that Horse Agility would to in Other Miscellaneous Performance.
Do G1 stablemates only show in the G1 division or can they show in Breyer mini as well?
G1 SMs may show in both the Breyer Mini Halter Division and the G1 SM Section. Note that the G1 SM Section does require extra fees, but allows you mini to show in multiple breed classes.
Where would the following show - all have western type tack:
Mounted shooting - Endurance - Jousting - Skijoring
Mounted shooting could go in Other Western Performance Not Listed.
Endurance, Jousting, and Skijoring should go in Other Misc. Performance.
Where would a Friesian foal and a Standardbred foal go in breed?
Most likely Sport.
Special Performance Award - change in instructions!
These cards must be handed in prior to the start of the show on Saturday. Show staff will note placings and tabulate points for the winners. There is no fee to enter your model(s) and rosettes are awarded to the high point and reserve.
Where do other makes show for breed? I see the collectibility division for them but can they go somewhere for breed? I have a few Copperfox and WIA models that I was going to bring.
For breed, other makes (plastic) will go with Breyer. The WIA is 1:18 so is in line with Breyer's Little Bit/Paddock Pal models - so that goes in Breyer Mini.
May I use my Region X tags?
Yes! But remember to add the age to the tag, otherwise the model will be disqualified.
How does MAR define a Stone FC/Factory Custom?
Stone FC are defined in the brochure - anything but gender change is considered a Factory Custom.
How are the cards for Special Performance Awards being handled?
These cards MUST be put in the specified box prior to the start of performance classes. Performance judges will be recording those models that place 1st - 6th.
Is there a limit on the number of models for those bringing their own table?
Models just have to fit ON the table. Anything not directly on a table will be picked up by show management as such items create a trip hazard.
I do not see a place for Cross Country in OF Performance. Page 7 explains they do not go in the Jumper class. AR/CM has 16. OTHER w/fence, but not the OF. Where would a Cross Country entry go in OF Performance?
Class 35 Other English Performance
Where do I show the following?
Glossy perlino Lonesome Glory - Akhal-Teke - I'm guessing 214

Silver Dapple Fylkir SM - Icelandic - 334

With Breyers.
Would an OF Plastic mini that is not Breyer, Stone or Collecta show in the Breyer class?
Yes. As would Hartlands and Collectas.
Red Roan and Chalky/Pearly after 1970? Classes?
If the red roan is the "old" pattern (i.e., red roan running mare/stallion/foal) and doesn't fit in Vintage Club/etc., it will go in 384B - Other Unrealistic Color. Chalky/Pearly would go in class 383A.
Other SR or events realistic and non realistic?
If this is for the 1970-present section, there is a class for Other Special Run - #379. That class includes realistic/non-realistic models.
Decorator and unrealistic color in the same class?
If this is for the 1970-present section, the Decorator class (380) is for decorators only. An additional class will be added: 384B Other Unrealistic.
After 1970 Charcoal and splatter Dapple same class?
Yes, it is.
Where do custom donkey foals go? In class 49 or in the exotic division?
They go in the Foal Division - Class 49 Other Pure/Mix.
I know for the regular classes a horse can only enter one halter class per division, but does the same apply for the jackpot? For example can a horse be in both Amateur and Chestnut/Sorrel with No dapples, or do we need to pick one?
As all these classes are put out at one time, the model may enter only ONE.
Where would a brindle buckskin show - Dilute? Composite? Either?

This depends on the section/division they will be shown in, as well as the actual model. Most likely they would go in a Draft or Carriage class.
Where does a rabicano go in color classes?
Most likely composite - it would be helpful to see the model to determine placement for sure.
Where would a Hal or Rico Show?
As SR offered at BF only (okay, sometimes there are a few leftover that are sold afterwards), it would go in class 367.
Remember - this is a model horse show. Entries such as Dog Harness are not appropriate.
Q & A For Novices:
May I show SMs?
Yes.
May I show more than two models in a class by paying an extra dollar per model?
Yes
Is there a Fantasy class for Novices?
Not at this time - but that's a good idea and I will look into adding one!
Is tack needed for the performance classes?
Yes, a model needs to have appropriate tack on it for the performance classes, and were needed, obstacles as well. The Jumping class requires a model (it does not have to be in a jumping pose) and a jump, Trail requires an obstacle, etc.
Can custom horses by professional artists enter the novice performance division? I understand customs by other people can’t go in the halter division, I was just wondering if that applied for performance as well.
No, only CMs by the owner may be shown in this division.
Remember - this is a model horse show. Entries such as Dog Harness are not appropriate.

New Updates - see Home Page for newest updates!
Updates
1/17/20 - Due to issues with internet/email, the deadline for the late fee has been moved from 1/26/20 to 2/22/20.
Rule Update!
2/6/20 - under Class/Division Rules on page 7 - the Hunter w/Fence - this should read: Obstacles must simulate those found in a hunting field such as natural post and rail, brush, stone wall, white board fence/gate, coop, hedge, etc.
Rule Clarification!
3/3/20 - OF Breyer Collectability 1970-present Section - in determining where a model will go, some models may qualify for more than two classes. Please place your model in the class it was produced for. Let's take for example this year's Vintage Club SM Native Dancer in Gold Charm. So - it fits 371 - Vintage Club, and 380 Decorator. This model should go in 371 - Vintage Club - as that was what it was made for.
You may always indicate on your documentation any specifics about the model that would place it in a particular class. For example - the Celeste model was originally produced as a 2018 Collector's Club Web Special. It was also awarded to the sectional reserve champions at the Breyerfest Children's Show in 2018. So - it could go in 379 Other SR 1000+ or 366 Prize/Raffle Model - depending on where it was obtained. Documentation would be needed to clarify that.
3/3/20 - OF Breyer Collectability - When "Splash" Dapple is indicated, this also refers to "Splatter" Dapple.
Class Updates!
3/3/20 - there will be some additions to the OF Breyer Collectability 1970-present Section. BUT - as adding classes takes more time/resources, there will be a $1 fee per model. Here are the additions:
383A: Chalky/Pearly
384B: Other Unrealistic Color
3/5/20 - Rule clarification for Novices - each Novice gets half of a table included in their entry fee. If additional space is desired, it may be purchased at the same cost that open showers pay (i.e. $40 for an additional half table, $60 for an additional full table).
PRIOR INFORMATION/UPDATES ON DATE CHANGES/POSTPONEMENTS
Well, with Covid, again, MAR XL was postponed in 2021.
9/17/20: Mark your calendars for March 20-21, 2021 for the 40th Annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Horse Show (MAR)! I am currently re-submitting the contracts. I don't expect the class list or most of the information to change in the brochure, but I will update it with corrected dates/etc. - the aim is by the end of October.
9/9/20: Results of a survey to determine the next possible date for MAR are in - the overwhelming majority of participants voted for a March, 2021 date. We are currently awaiting confirmation by the hall representatives of the date.
8/25/20: NAMHSA suspends show qualifications until the pandemic is over.
8/24/20: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 issues, MAR will be postponed again. After a survey, it was determined that of the potential entrants, only a couple dozen would attend.
7/15/20: The MAR XL brochure will be updated by the end of this weekend to reflect new dates/late fees. There is still some space available - mostly on Saturday.
5/11/20: MAR XL has been rescheduled to October 3-4, 2020 at the same location! Entrants who have indicated they will attend - your space is saved! Entries will re-open for new folks over the summer.
3/13/20: A perfect ending to Friday the 13th! I just received a message that the Caroline County 4H Park has canceled all events through March 29, 2020. I will be reaching out to them on Monday concerning rescheduling. I will send an email out to all participants over the weekend, but wanted to post it here first. I'm sure the news will get around quickly. :) Stay tuned!
3/12/20: COVID-19 - At this time, the facility itself is open and is not canceling any non-4H scheduled events, so MAR will proceed. If this changes, an alert will be posted here and participants will be notified by email. As we all know, things can change quickly. Make sure in the days ahead you are getting proper rest, eating healthy, and following suggestions from your local health department/authority.
